Intriguing artwork made by artists from various Latin American countries fills the Starr Gallery. On a recent visit during regular gallery hours, however, we had more of an adventure than we had expected: We had to get someone to unlock the gallery. Then, later, while we were at the back of the room, someone locked us in the gallery, so we had to knock on the glass door to get someone to let us out.
The Starr Gallery is one of a few galleries within the dazzling, spacious River East Art Center, a space which also hosts special events. Artists featured recently include Paul Sierra (Cuba), Carlos Colombino (Paraguay), Gretchen Minnhaar (Aregentina), Sergio Garcia (Cuba), Juan Jose Molina (Colombia) and Eladio Gonzales (Cuba).
