Bar on Buena isn't just a clever name (it is, as it so happens, a bar
and it's on Buena), it's also a really impressive bar with really impressive beer. Seriously—Bar on Buena has one of the best (not-so-expensive) beer selections in the city. If you came here for the PBR, do reconsider. Heck, you're likely to get dirty looks from the wait-staff just for thinking about ordering a PBR (or, for that matter, a Budweiser). Try the Ketel One dirty martini at only $6; it's so tasty and dry that you end up looking like Walter Donovan at the end of Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. Which is to say, dry. Like dust.
The food, though bar fare, is good and does its job. Your best bet is the hamburger, too, full of the kind of fatty juices that can make bar food delicious to the extreme.
The surroundings aren't immediately amazing—just like your typical high-quality bar, everything is made of varnished brown wood, with the exception of the hi-def televisions—but darn if that outside patio doesn't get our tongues wagging. Huge windows stay open in the summer long after the patio itself closes. Fresh air does a body good.
All in all, Bar on Buena in Uptown is the way neighborhood bars should be done. Stop on by and experience the experience.
