On the back wall of Gannon's, you'll see a row of photos and a collection of newspaper articles from the early 1900s. The photos are of Gannon's owner Sheila Murphy's grandfather, who used to deliver beer up and down Lincoln Avenue. The articles also cover the murder of Murphy's great-grandfather. As the story goes, he went into a bar to get change for $10 for his employer, and as he exited, he was robbed and stabbed to death. So you see, for better or worse, bars are in the Murphy blood.

This isn't the cheeriest introduction to Gannon's, but you might as well know the story if you plan to become a regular at this neighborhood gathering spot. Murphy opened the place in 2004 after tending bar for over a decade in the Lincoln corridor, and her biggest customers are the kind that order just by sitting down.

A jukebox, a television, darts and a bowling arcade game pepper the green walls, while the beautiful dark bar holds a cornucopia of booze. In warmer months, patrons also take advantage of patio seating and a serene beer garden.

Gannon's has specials every day of the week, including $3 burgers and $2.25 Miller Lites and $3.25 Fat Tire pints on Tuesdays, $2.50 domestic bottles and $4.50 boneless buffalo chicken strips on Thursdays and $3.50 Sierra Nevada and $5.75 fish and chips on Fridays. The bar's full menu includes appetizers like Gorgonzola dip, a wide array of burgers ($6-$7.25), sandwiches ($5.50-$7.25) and entrees like mac & cheese and Italian sausage and goat cheese pasta.
