| Founded in 1964 by University of Chicago composer and conductor Ralph Shapey, the CCP is the city's most venerable guardian of important 20th-century music -- lots of it Chicago and world premieres. Despite Shapey's retirement at the end of the 1995-1996 season, and changes in funding, the group hus survived through its 35th birthday, thanks to renewed support from the University of Chicago, which established a committee to head the group's artistic direction, and donated conductor Cliff Colnot (previously the CSO's unofficial new music advisor." Their concerts are held at the U. of C.'s Mandel Hall.
