Deb Seitz

Lockport's Deb Seitz works more than most in the South Suburbs, and she's gained a loyal following at clubs like Chord On Blue, St. Charles, the Harlem Avenue Lounge in Berwyn, the Peppercorn in Palos Hills, Vino Tinto in Oak Lawn, Blues Island and Tommy's Place in Blue Island, and Leroy's Hot Stuff in Porter, Indiana. She's a seasoned regional performer with shows for the Madison Blues Society in Wisconsin, Jonah's Oyster Bar in Peoria, Frankie's Blue Room in Naperville, Grant Park's Taste of Chicago, and St. Charles' Chord on Blues (winner of the prestigious Keeping the Blues Alive Award in 2006 from the Blues Foundation).

In 2006, this "leading lady of the blues" won the Central Illinois Blues Challenge and competed in the International Blues Challenge on Beale Street in Memphis for the Blues Blowtorch Society in Bloomington. In 2004, the Seitz was a finalist in the Best Unsigned Vocalist Contest at Chicago's House of Blues, judged by Alligator Records' Bruce Iglauer. She took home the hardware at a Janis Joplin sound-alike contest hosted by local bluesman and WCKG-FM personality Buzz Kilman at Dick's Last Resort at Chicago's North Pier Mall in 2001. Deb is a regular at the Thanksgiving and Easter Blues Revues hosted by Sopro Productions of Chicago Ridge. Earlier this year, Deb and the Sopro Blues Revue Band headlined a benefit for the Midwest Children's Brain Tumor Center of Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge. Seitz' enthusiasm for the blues is positively infectious and she's performed with many great area players, including Patrick "Drum King" Doody, Toronzo Cannon, JB Ritchie and Sam Cockrell at the Harlem Avenue Lounge, Pat Smilie at Redfish in downtown Chicago, "Killer" Ray Allison at Rosa's Lounge, and Vino Louden at Blues Island. Deb continues to work not only with seasoned veterans, but rising stars and newcomers alike. Deb is inspired by the talent that surrounds her as well as the many blueswomen who have inspired her for nearly three decades. "I try to give audiences something they can move to," continued Seitz. "You'll hear Muddy Waters, BB King and Lazy Lester at my shows, but you'll also get Tracy Chapman, Janis Joplin or John Prine through blues-tinted glasses."

Seitz' solo CDs, Another Promise and Soul Stirring, have landed on playlists from Bloomington-Normal to her native Montana. They are available on Deb's website, CD Baby and the official International Blues Challenge site. Deb's original songs, "Another Promise" earned airplay on Tom Marker's Blues Breakers on WXRT Radio, while "Living the Blues" and "Goin' Somewhere," are on the airwaves thanks to weekend blues shows like Delta Frank's Blues Alley at WGLT in Bloomington/Normal. She's paired with guitarist Frank Anastos as the "Seitz and Soundz," duo, and she's fronts the Deb Seitz Band, which features some of the region's most notable blues talent at the top of their game. The Deb Seitz Band currently performs throughout Chicagoland and beyond. "I work to keep the blues very much alive, and I'm very proud of what I do," said Seitz.
