| Singer/songwriter Ellen Rosner has made a legitimate claim as one of the area's premier female solo acts. Distinctive lyrics coupled with catchy guitar work make her original folk-rock shows a definite treat. She has played in venues such as the Metro, Double Door, Park West, the Taste of Chicago and the Empty Bottle, among many others, and she regularly tours across the country. The list of bands that Ellen has opened for or played with is quite impressive, including Veruca Salt, Bob Geldof, Big Star, The Good and Willie Porter. And if you think she looks familiar when you first see her in concert, this could be the result of her being the Shure Wireless Microphone performer, featured in their national print ad campaign.
The organizer of the Gal-O-Rama music fest has finally released some music with The Perfect Malcontent, which features several members of Poi Dog Pondering, Anna Fermin's Trigger Gospel, Mount Pilot, and others. Malcontent was produced by Lou Carlozo, Mike Hagler (Wilco, Anna Fermin, Summerteeth, Aluminum Group, Waco Brothers) and Rosner. A new album, Count to 3 is due out in March '01. Of it, the Chicago Reader's Monica Kendrick says, "... Rosner still sounds a little misplaced on the lighter pop songs, but she shines on throaty ballads like "Vacancy."
