| Composer and keyboardist was born in Chicago, raised in Evanston and still lives in the heart of the city. He began playing the cello at eight and switched to piano a year later. While playing in Owens.html>Don Owens' jazz band, he formed long-standing friendships with saxophonist Michael Bard and guitrist David Onderdonk, both of whom have been very influential. His Columbia Records debut, Open Book, was co-produced by bassist Steve Rodby. Guitarist Ross Traut and vocalist Bonnie Herman (Singers Unlimited) also appeared on the record. Simon has also recorded on Windham Hill and Narada (the latter in collections).
