Split Habit

The Chicago-based (formerly of Lemont, Ill., about 20 miles west of the big city) power trio plays the usual indie pop-rock that one would expect from a Chicago-land band, and has grown into one of the city's finer all-ages draws at venues like the Metro & Double Door. Though to a certain degree, it is more of the usual. Split Habit has a nice, sort of clean-cut sound not unlike a slightly harder-edged Material Issue in their early years. They could use a bit of improvement both in terms of cleaning up their production and avoiding song-writing and arranging cliches, but they have a great sound and raw talent, which adds up to lots of potential to be something really good.

The band is Chris Michaels (drums), Travis "Dickie" Brown (Bass, Lead Vocals), Johnny Smoke (Guitar, Backing Vocals). Albums include Rockstar 101 (1999), E to the P (2000), Broken Strings, Broken Sticks, Broken Hearts, and the lead track off of Veronica Records largest selling album.
