NOW CLOSED...Formerly: Designed around an over-eager lounge concept, Cherry Red's interior is (wait for it) relentlessly red, an idea that's great in theory but stalls in execution. The crimson pillars support an air of trying too hard, and the long red couches fall well short of classy. Young girls who seem barely old enough to drive make up the core clientele. That each one is squeezed and tucked into the type of clothing one is accustomed to seeing in a Red Light District is fitting, since they are all actually (groan) illuminated with red lights. This is the kind of place that's stuck in a Girls Gone Wild bubble—making it a great option for people watching, but only if you can stomach watching these kind of people.
DJs lean toward house, hip-hop and techno beats, but occasional rock sets make their way through. High cover charges (usually $20-$30) and expensive drinks make a night at Cherry Red a pricey venture, but that isn't to say people should avoid it entirely. Keeping track of the regular drink specials helps out with the cost, and you can also save a bundle by booking a celebration. Cherry Red is particularly savvy at accommodating private parties of all sizes—an equation that makes it a decent place to mark the end of finals by shaking your ass like it's on fire.
