Editorial Review of MaxBar

Nightlife entrepreneurs Joey Vartanian and Mike Matuschka (Big Nasty, Esoteria, Blu) have refashioned Blu, and how. The let's-try-to-be-sleek steel has given way to a mahogany-infused neighborhood spot with "extreme service," extensive cocktails and the very mod martini flight.

Conveniently located in the heart of Lincoln Avenue's Saturday night action, this a great place for drinking, dancing and downright debauchery. The tavern-meets-disco offers wooden booths, televisions, beers and bar snacks for the casual crowd upon entry. Venture further back and the lighting dims, opening to a dance floor, strobe lights and gyrating bodies. Feeling VIP? Climb the spiral staircase to your own private table; just be prepared to drop a few big ones on a bottle of Grey Goose.

Maxbar's twentysomething patronage ranges from area college students to the newly employed. Watch for young investment bankers looking to drop their first paycheck on impressed teenyboppers' long island iced teas, but make friends if you notice their affinity towards bottle service. Though generally packed on Friday and Saturday nights (have your $10 cover ready), guests won't wait in line for more than 15 minutes; arrive before midnight and you'll breeze through the door.

Arguably the best part of an evening at MaxBar, the tunes range from standard radio-circulated pop songs to ghosts of late-nights past. Stay on the dance floor for a while; this club might be the only place left in Chicago where you can still groove to "Baby Got Back."
