Women who love their men tall, dark and handsome will surf through cornfields of eligible bachelors when visiting Wax. The women are equally attractive and prove so by jumping on stage to pop-lock-and-drop-it; you'll find some, though, who are unable to pick it back up.
This club, in the former Jet Vodka Lounge space, presents high-end parties on Monday and Saturday nights. Most people know someone here; don't be surprised to pay a $40 cover if you're just walking in off the street. You'll definitely get your money's worth thanks to the hot DJs, but get to know the promoters anyway; you might get a discount on your next visit.
Deep pockets and short arms don't mix here; the bar easily sells 22 bottles of Moet and 6 bottles of Grey Goose a night. You'll notice the mood boost when the DJ slips on Yung Joc's "Bottle Poppin'."
The atmosphere resembles one big music video. Guests act out songs, waving their drinks and lip-synching. You gotta love a DJ unafraid of throwing on some old-school Three 6 Mafia. Once things start to get raunchy (as they inevitably do), navigating the crowd of 200 appears impossible. And while it's a known fact that the men in the house are successful (many are professional athletes), the DJ doesn't forget the "ladies with bank accounts and college degrees," tossing up Webbie's "Independent."
The club's modern, South Beach style adds the final touch of pretense. The tanning booth/space station design comes equipped with blinking red, green and blue walls, reminiscent of the '80s electronic game, Simon.
Fridays, expect a wallet-friendly fare of $5. On these nights, house DJs have included Derrick Carter, Gene Hunt and Lady D. among others. Cocktails start at $8.
