Considering that Minneapolis isn’t a bustling metropolis, it’s staggering to realize that two of the most respected collectives in hip-hop have come from there. One of those is Doomtree whose active roster hovers around seven. POS and Dessa have been the most successful members of the group, in terms of solo ventures, but nevertheless their dedication to the collective has stayed firmly intact. In fact the expanding and contracting of Doomtree has provided a refreshing perspective to build on, one that has them evolving beyond the looming shadow of Rhymesayers. This will be their first performance at the Empty Bottle, which will no doubt be a treat for all parties involved. Chicago’s own Naledge (of Kidz in the Hall) opens. (J. Min)
