What to expect: Formerly the Chicago Antique Market, this indoor/outdoor market boasts high-quality antique merchandise in the Randolph Street market district...everything from 18th-century furniture and 19th-century oil paintings to Art Deco lighting fixtures and 1930s kitchen appliances.
Why to go: The Indie Designer Market, featuring local independent designers whose fashions are inspired by vintage and hand-made clothing combined with imaginative and trendy interpretations.
Additional info: 2008 weekends are May 24-25, June 28-29, July 26-27, August 30-31, September 27-28 and October 25-26. A free trolley will operate between the market and Water Tower Place, leaving the Water Tower at the top of each hour between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m., and departing the market at half-hour intervals between 10:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. (with a final departure at 4:15 p.m.).
New areas include the Vinyl Swap Meet (rare recordings for collectors and music lovers), Fancy Food Market (featuring gourmet popcorn, truffles, olive oils and more) and the Global Goods Bazaar (with artisans representing Chicago's ethnic heritage). Classic cars and bicycles from the '60s and '70s will also be for sale.
