Date: January 7-17, 2010
Cost: $12.50 per show, $150 for a festival pass (go here for tickets).
What to expect: The largest sketch comedy festival in America (or so says the website) will feature performances from 100 groups on three stages in the Theatre Building Chicago on Belmont.
Why to go: The Sketchubator (Saturdays at midnight), a fast-paced late-night performance where participants are given five minutes to act out a new scene or concept, should be cool, as should NYC's New Exc!tement (10 p.m. January 15 and 16). For a more family-friendly event, Sketch Days for Kids will be held on Saturdays, January 9 and 16, at 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. See the website for the full schedule, and view our favorite videos from performers.
Additional info: Fridays and Saturdays after the shows are finished, all the performing groups can stick around for networking events. Free beer and food will be provided.
