Sick of paying your gym for services you never use? Strip down (your workout, that is) to the basics at this locally-owned gym ideal for people who already know what they want from their fitness routine, and, from the looks of it, don’t need a fancy lobby: When you walk through the front door of the squeaky-clean, two-floor facility, you’ll be standing in the weight training room with a dozen treadmills in back. Both floors are packed with cardio equipment to keep you from waiting in line. Keep in mind, though, things can get a little cramped, and you'll have to squeeze between machines when you want to throw down a mat for stretching or crunches.
The best part about this place: You control your commitment level, and there are no hidden costs. Pay for what you use, whether that’s $10 for the day, $70 for the month or $450 for the year (you can also get a membership for one week, two weeks, three months or six months). New members have no initiation fee, and you won’t have to sign a contract.
Classes: The beauty of this gym is that there are no classes. Show up when you want and do your routine, your way.
Extras: Each locker room has showers and a sauna for all guests to use, and TVs you can tune into with your own headphones hang in the equipment rooms. If you’re in the neighborhood, stop in for a free pass and tour to check things out for yourself.
