| 1921 - Denise Cass Brookman was born in Chicago, the daughter of an author and publisher. Her first piece of writing, she says, was "a poem about suicide which horrified my parents as well as 'Child Life' magazine, to which I submitted it." She attended Northwestern University, and after she was married and living in Barrington, began writing stories and novels about relationships for young adults. Works: - The Tender Time, 1958
- The Look of Love, 1960
- The Young in Love, 1962
