Aside from its plush purple and orange hues and a few plasma TVs, Ambrosia doesn't offer much by way of decor. That's probably because the hookah pipes here are already flashy enough. You've got to show up after 7 p.m., though, if you want to smoke the stuff.
During the day you'll find DePaul students lounging on sofas and pillow-lined benches with laptops and anxiety-ridden faces – nothing that Ambrosia's café menu can't cure. Cut through the stress with one of the shop's specialty smoothies. We recommend the signature blend with banana, dates, honey and milk. Of course, the Mediterranean isn't bad either, with its strange mix of apple, carrot, orange, peach, strawberry and banana.
You can amp up your endorphins with a carb-fueled sandwich like the Toshka with ground beef, fresh garlic and spices, topped with cheese and served on grilled pita bread. Ambrosia's owner Leo has a favorite of his own: the salami, roast beef, turkey and ham with swiss cheese, veggies and mayo on your choice of bread. If you are watching your waistline, you'll want to steer clear of the desserts here. Ambrosia stocks a full selection of Sweet Thang pastries, including fruit tarts, raspberry mousse, cheesecakes and chocolate éclairs. Ambrosia Cafe is BYOB and offers free wifi.
