Chalk another one up for that pesky phoenix. Rising from the ashes of the infamous Second Hand Tunes, this shop is the brainchild of three former employees of the now-closed Hyde Park location of Second Hand Tunes; coincidentally, they're also the reborn Hyde Park Records' only employees. Talk about love. Customers (ranging from U of C students to local DJs) cite great selection, fair prices and extremely friendly service, saying the owners "give the impression of knowing every customer's name and backstory." It's hard to beat that when looking for a place to buy, sell and trade used LPs and CDs.
The store boasts a solid array of vintage jazz, soul, blues and hip-hop (something sorely lacking at mainly resale locales) LPs & CDs, along with punk, classical and avant-garde titles. While some customers (and even the owners) declare that Second Hand was "gross" and "square," you'll be happy to know that "I love you" and "so amazing my wife is gonna kill me" are now the descriptions of choice.
