Chicago popsters signed a contract with Minty Fresh Records to distribute Plano (produced by Dave Trumfio of The Pulsars at Kingsize, and at their own Ukranian Village loft). At the group's center are two brothers, John and Frank Navin (both nearly 40), who've been part of the Chicago music scene for almost 15 years, in groups such as the art-punk Women in Love to performance art Bleak House. Says the Chicago Reader's Peter Margasak, few other bands "can pull off a similar mix of sickly sweet arrangments and pessimistic, sometimes scathingly sarcastic lyrics." On Plano (released in mid-1998), the group is helped by vocalist Sally Timms, trumpeter Tito Carillo, and violinist Susan Voelz. Guitarist John Ridenour is also in Spool.

Other releases include "Pelo" (2000), "Happyness" (2002), and "More Happyness" (2004).
