Chicago Chorale

Chicago Chorale performs choral masterworks of the sixteenth through the twenty-first centuries, in the liturgical settings and acoustic environments for which they were composed. Based in Chicago's historic Hyde Park-Kenwood neighborhood, the Chorale draws on the resources of the University of Chicago, especially its world-renowned department of music and the collections of Regenstein Library, as well as the numerous seminaries and theology schools in the community, for much of its inspiration and direction.

Many of the ensemble's singers are students, staff, and alumni/ae of these institutions, and bring to the Chorale a highly developed appreciation of languages, cultural history, liturgical practice, and performance traditions.

Under the direction of founder Bruce Tammen, the group has performed in venues around Chicago, including Rockefeller Memorial Chapel, the Cultural Center's Preston Bradley Hall, and the Monastery of the Holy Cross, where it recorded its first compact disc, _Introducing Chicago Chorale_, in May 2003. As featured artists, the Chorale has performed on Live From WFMT, with host Kerry Frumkin, and in Mexico City, with the Orquesta del Nuevo Mundo, under the direction of Johannes Ullrich.
