| Guitar virtuoso has appeared in over 25 countries, performing everything from Spanish classics to Latin American dances, flamenco showpieces, and contemporary works. Says Sarah Bryan Miller of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, "Laughlin brings the music to vibrant, idiomatic life, playing with both skill and the requisite panache." Laughlin received a Master of Music degree from Yale University, and a Bachelor of Music degree from the Peabody Conservatory. He studied in Paris for two years on a Fulbright grant and on a French government scholarship, winning two international competitions (the Concours International de Guitar in Sable-sur-Sarthe, and the Concours International de I'U.F.A.M. in Paris). He has two recordings Simplicio (1998), and Danza! (1994), both on Peregrine Records. He has his own guitar studio in Glenview, and teaches at the Wisconsin Conservatory of Music in Milwaukee.
