| Live hip-hop bands have an endless amount of potential, but the biggest problem they face is finding a cohesive identity, especially in terms of style. In a little under two years, Cookies and Dirt (Idris Goodwin-MC, Saint Pete-bass/beats, Dan Feeney-guitar/beats, and Corey McCafferty-drums/beats), has worked and polished its sets into the most progressive of any hip-hop band in Chicago.
The seed was planted in the summer of 2006, when Idris and Pete were painting houses and they exchanged ideas about the possibilities of a live hip-hop band. The group has performed at various venues and each performance has been better than the last. The most impressive thing about this group is the members' ability to blur the lines of hip-hop. Their sets are a sound collage of rock, electronica, funk, and hip-hop; and with opening acts that specialize in each genre, their fan base continues to grow with no bounds. The instrumentation alone is something to boast about, but it's the way they gel on stage that makes Cookies and Dirt one of the most intriguing bands in the scene today.
