Denise LaSalle

Moving to Chicago from Mississippi in the mid-1950s, she regularly performed locally. After founding the Crajon label in 1969 with Chicago entrepreneur Bill Jones, the pair released many classic R&B/soul tracks. Beginning in the early '70s, LaSalle reached the charts with 9 hits for the Westbound label, as well as more recent successes with ABC, MCA, and Malaco. The Jackson, TN resident released a gospel album, God's Got My Back (Angel in the Midst) in 1999, and in 2002 she returned with Still the Queen.
