Elijah Levi

This bio should be one sentence and that sentence is:

Elijah Levi is one hell of a vocalist.

...but I guess you're looking for more info than that. Longtime Chicago vocalist "and entertainer" Levi has, at long last, released his debut effort Finally Elijah on Southport Records. A glance at the tracklist would make anyone wary; he covers such over-worked material as "Sweet Home Chicago," "Fever," "Route 66," "St. Louis Blues," and "Mac the Knife." But this is as far from a tepid cover record as one can get. Levi imbues each of the songs with his own signature style. His silky smooth vocals, incredible range and playful style breathe new life into these classics. Part of the phenomenal success of this effort is of course due to his fantastic backing band on the recording. The band is led by the acclaimed Tatsu Aoki on bass along with other members of his quartet (guitarist Moko Makino--who tours with blues great Sugar Blue, Tim O'Dell on sax, and Dave Pavkovic on drums.)

One hopes that with a debut recording under his belt, Levi will begin to record more and that his justly deserved reputation as one of the premiere jazz vocalists will spread beyond Chicago.
