| A member of the influential Roberta Martin Singers for over three decades (1935-1969), Eugene Smith is still an excellent singer and showman as well as well as a blues-influenced composer. Producer/Critic Anthony Heibut calls him the first to "employ gestures as physical correlatives" to music. You can hear two of his performances with RMS during the '50s on Shanachie's Great Gospel Men.
