| David Grubbs, Jim O'Rourke, and a rotating cast of collaborators, including bassist Bundy K. Brown, percussionist John McEntire, and clarinetist Gene Coleman, saxophonist Mats Gustafsson, and percussionist Gunter Muller, who explored an ever-widening sphere of sound, have apparently called it quits. O'Rourke & Grubbs have plenty of work with their upcoming solo releases. Gastr del Sol appeared at a huge variety of venues during its tenure, ranging from the 1996 Toronto Jazz Festival to local rock clubs, including the Empty Bottle. You can also find find Gastr del Sol (and their recent releases Camofleur [which the Chicago Reader's Peter Margasak picked as his favorite record of 1998, saying "rarely have gorgeous melodies and avant-garde tendencies been on such easy terms..."] and Upgrade & Afterlife) on the Drag City Records roster. David Grubbs still collaborates with Mayo Thompson in his long-running project, The Red Krayola. Links
