Jimbo Delta
Otherwise known as Jim Parks, this Quincy-bred guitarist moved to the city in '97, following the roads of his Delta idols. Coffeeshop sets and open mics led the way to many a bookings at Fitgerald's, and Weed's Tavern, opening for greats like Chuck Berry, Dr. John and Bo Diddley. Armed with a resonator guitar, Parks keeps the steel licks clean on his 2002 debut, Hypnotized, evoking Americana with the vocal range of a young Johnny Cash and plenty of lazy-river strings. "Goin' Down That Road," could be a James Taylor b-side. His European tours have brought out some electric guitar experimentations on the still-working-titled sophomore effort, Beginnings Without Endings (up on his MySpace page); he's certainly a representative of the new generation that will take over when all our mainstays pass the torch. (Gavin Paul)
