Chicago Reader critic Peter Margasak gives her new Words and Music (Southport) mixed reviews, saying "local thrush Joanie Pallato takes on a variety of standards, jazz gems, and originals in appealingly lean settings: her treatment of Baltimore Oriole," for example, features only the bass of Eldee Young and the bongos of Alejo Poveda. Unfortunately Pallatto's syrupy, show-tunesy style negates any advantage the instrumentation might give her..."
