| Probably best-known as a music critic for the Chicago Reader, John Corbett has been a bridge to experimental music for many listeners. In addition to critical work, he has also been a teacher at the School of the Art Institute, hosted radio programs on WNUR and WHPK, and co-founded and programmed the Empty Bottle's well-regarded Wednesday night jazz series. In addition to producing a number of free and improv recordings, including a recent collaboration between local sax legend Fred Anderson and Dutch pianist Misha Mengelberg and an apparently upcoming archival reissue record label to focus on the '60s and '70s (especially the music in that period by local icons Anderson & Hal Russel), he's also released a solo album, I'm Sick About My Hat, with guests including David Grubbs (Gastr del Sol), Hamid Drake, Masts Gustafsson, Fred Lonberg-Holm, Jeb Bishop, and Corbett's finacee, violinist Terri Kapsalis.
