After several records on Virgin blues subsidiary Pointblank, this electric-based blues-rock mixed with funk and reggae has returned to its old home, Alligator Records, for its 3rd Alligator album, Smoke and Steel. Family patriarch Big Daddy Kinsey was a blues purist. The kids, though, go in for a fusion of styles. Still -- as the Chicago Tribune says -- "The Kinsey Report show off some classic Albet & B.B. King tricks, put Robert Cray's contemporary blues style to shame..."
Donald Kinsey, the band's guitarist, played with Bob Marley & the Wailers during the mid-seventies, lived for a time in Kingston, Jamaica, and was with Marley when gunmen attempted the reggae giant's assasination. Anyway, he and bassist Kenneth and drummer Ralph have been exploring contemporary blues together since 1984. They're scheduled to perform on the Juke Joint Stage at the 1999 Chicago Blues Festival.
Previous releases with Alligator include Edge of the City.
