| Voted "best new band" in New City's "Best of Chicago 2002 Reader's Choice poll," Kristin Shout and Smoking Kitten's music is dark and earthy. She's been compared to Patti Smith and PJ Harvey, and has a very dark, sultry sound. She's backed by Smoking Kitten, which consists of Doug Brush (vibraphone and assorted percussion), Greg Nergaard (bass), John Knecht(drums), and Melissa Ziemer (backup vocals). Before her recent return to Chicago, she traveled and performed throughout Europe. She has released two self-titled EP in 2000 and 2004, and a full length "Thorny Devil" in January 2006.
