The side project of Chicago's Red Red Meat and New York Trio Rex, began as a joke while the two bands were touring together in the fall on 1995 -- jamming together, they talked about forming a band called Red Rex Meat. Two years later, RRM's own Perishable label just released the resulting project, Loftus. The album, originally recorded for A&M subsidiary Treat & Release (the label run by anchorman Tom Brokaw's daughter Andie), remained unreleased for more than a year before the band eventually bought the record back, so they could release it themselves.
Despite the geographical distance and other musical commitments (Rex's drummer is in June of 44), the combined group may tour if the record sells some. Also, Red Red Meat covered for Rex when the latter crashed their van on the way to their Empty Bottle New Year's Eve show...
