| White-bearded Oak Park resident has been a Chicago Symphony Orchestra cellist since 1985. For the previous 10 years, he had been principal cello of the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra & the Milwaukee Chamber Orchestra. Before that, he had been a member of the US Navy String Quartet, first chair cello of the National Gallery Orchestra, principal of the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts Opera Orchestra, as well as performing in the Smithsonian's Old Instruments Division. Since coming to the Windy City, he's performed on WFMT's "Mozart and Schubert Live" broadcast, and in chamber music concerts in the US, Europe, Australia, and Japan with the Chicago Chamber Musicians, Chicago Pro Musica, London's Hilliard Ensemble, and the Chicago Symphony Chamber Players. Brown's bachelor's degree is from Michigan State University, and his masters is from the University of Michigan. Interesting note: his older brother, Dr. Ellsworth Brown, was director of the Chicago Historical Society until 1993.
