| Though Chicago's (probably) most-gifted gospel pianist doesn't play anymore (due to a stroke a few years ago), she still sings (as at the 1998 Chicago Gospel Festival). In her prime, says producer/critic Anthony Heibut, her "instrumental and compositional style melded gospel ballad, popular ballad, and light opera." Originally inspired by Chicago gospel pioneer Roberta Martin and the classical piano literature (from Beethoven to Chopin), Collier went on to influence many others, including James Cleveland. You can hear her on the Delmark Records reissue compilation Working the Road - The Golden Age of Chicago Gospel.
