| Art Ensemble of Chicago bassist who passed away in February 2004 was a member of the AACM and Art Ensemble of Chicago, as well as Kahil El'Zabar's Ritual Trio, with whom he has also played banjo, zither, gongs, log drum, whistles, and sung... Inspired by Wilbur Ware, Favors began playing bass at the age of 15. After playing with pianist Andrew Hill from 1958-60, Favors met Roscoe Mitchell and Muhal Richard Abrams (whose Experimental Band, which later evolved into the AACM, he later joined). He played with Lester Bowie in the important Art Ensemble of Chicago, and on the individual albums of Mitchell, Bowie, and other AACM members. You can hear him on many Art Ensemble records, or on an album of duos with Abrams which was released in the mid-1970s.
