The greatest asset any performer can possess is versatility. The ability to turn with ease, from one thing to another, adapting a variety of skills, and using them with equal dexterity to create a picture that is whole and unique. Mel Hammond is a performer of this caliber. Mel discovered his love for music at an early age. The son of a dj and record store owner, he acquired his own turntables by the age of ten. At 13, Mel found himself playing alongside the legendary Farley "Funkin'" Keith ("Jackmaster" today) at an elementary school party. Soon thereafter, Mel made his transition from a southside hero to northside personality. In his two decades of DJing and one decade of producing, Mel has built a solid following for his distinctive brand of techno-house. He was one of the first jocks to grace the decks at Chi-Town's infamous Shelter. Mel Hammond has toured successfully for La Plage Records in Paris and has opened up a new world of opportunity in Europe. He has released a number of singles for UC offshoot Afterhours, under his real name and as Bocasonic. He has completed two projects for the Music 101 label, working alongside Playin' For The City and Carla Prather of Poi Dog Pondering. Mel Hammond has mastered a number of art forms and today, utilizes his vast knowledge to create a sound and style that is uniquely his own.
