| Chicago Symphony Orchestra trombonist is also a member of the Chicago Chamber Musicians, principal trombone of Music of the Baroque and of the Grand Teton Music Festival, and a member of the premiere American large brass ensemble, Summit Brass. Born in Sydney, Australia in 1958, he studied with Baden McCarron of the Sydney Symphony Orchestra and Geoffrey Bailey at the State Conservatorium of New South Wales. In 1976 he became Principal Tromboone of the Tasmanian Symphony, and a year later held the same position in the Melbourne Symphony. He left the "land down under" in 1981 for Europe, where he was Solo Trombone with the Cologne Radio Symphony Orchestra. After a few years on the faculty at the Canberra School of Music at the Australian National University, he was appointed to the CSO by Sir Georg Solti in 1989. In 1999 Michael was appointed Professor of Trombone at Northwestern University
