| Noted jazz journalist -- a Chicago Reader musical commentator and monthly columnist for Jazziz Magazine -- co-hosted the radio program, "Miles Ahead" until the show's end in 2005. He was host of another of Chicago's most popular jazz programs, WBEZ-FM's Jazz Forum from 1980-1996. These days, he co-hosts (with Mark Ruffin) the nationally syndicated public-radio jazz review "Listen Here!", a blend of reviews, interviews, and commentary. It can be heard at www.listenhereradio.com
Tesser received the ASCAP Deems Taylor Award for writing on music in 2001, and former national trustee of the Recording Academy (NARAS), and former president of the Chicago chapter. His 1998 book The Playboy Guide to Jazz (he was Playboy's jazz critic for over a decade) is a walk through the important developments of that musical form, as well as a listing of the 50 essential jazz albums. He taught courses in jazz history as an adjunct professor at Northwestern University, and is a member of the programming committee for the Chicago Jazz Festival. He will be teaching courses at Columbia College in Chicago starting this fall 2006.
