Quantazelle is Liz McLean Knight, a native of the Chicago area, who spends most of her time in front of computer monitors, working on an online magazine devoted to electronic music, and frequently arranging sounds into the compositions that find their way onto albums.
Liz reluctantly took piano and ballet lessons when she was little, but as she matured expanded her involvement in the arts to include modern dance, visual art, and theater, which she has been known to incorporate into certain live performance. In high school she was introduced to the world of underground electronic music through warehouse parties in the seedier parts of Chicago, but it was in art school in California that she decided to devote herself to creating experimental electronic music.
Returning to Chicago she reconnected with computer musician friends from high school and spent a year learning their methods before she released her first attempts in the EP "The Toaster One." It was followed up by "Beets," which also involved a creative packaging promotion of a custom lunchbox and a full-color poster. Ever evolving, Liz released "A Cold," three downtempo and more melodically-mature tracks on a 3" CD packaged in a petri dish.
Her latest and most advanced work is "Coaster," an EP featuring her most complex and engaging work to date, and packaged as a designer beverage coaster that comes with its own carrying case and instructions for use.
Quantazelle has performed live alongside people like Proem, Machinedrum, Proswell, String Theory, Miles Tilmann, Atropa, The Flashbulb, Common Factor, Broken Spindles, The Aeffect, and Dave Siska, participated in Laptronica Laptop Cage Matches, and performed at the digital arts festivals Version>02 and Select Media Festival.
