The Buzz

Does Chicago need another Blues band? Does the world really need another Jon Spencer Blues Explosion? Probably not I guess. Lord knows there's enough of each already. That said however, if there had to be, god forbid, just one more, and I was in charge, I guess I'd let The Buzz fill the spot. Though they don't really do a whole lot that is different from every other blues-ish band out there, they are all individually really talented and work nicely together as a group as well . They do have very tight, well-arranged sets that are entertaining and professional, though very few of the riffs are new. The music has a lot of energy but it somehow still comes off as flat and uninspired. Perhaps this is due to the fact that the music is too professional and polished. Somehow the blues seems to come off better when it doesn't seem to have been endlessly rehearsed and arranged. The blues is a gritty and passionate style of music. People who've got the blues play the blues. It doesn't really seem to be a style of music that can be learned or perfected. While it may be true that The Buzz are trying to perfect the Blues, I'm not so sure that it really needed any perfecting...
