The Countdown consist of husband-wife duo Roxie Starr (Sweet Heat, Starball) and Stiff Starr (Entertainment, Red Eyed Legends). The Countdown recorded and released their debut Communicator LP and the follow-up Human Resources EP out of their attic studio. The Countdown have shared the stage with The Locust, The Unicorns, Sneaker Pimps, The Postal Service, Boy George, I Am the World Trade Center, Hawney Troof, The Postal Service, Cex, The Frogs and W.I.T. Their live performances have left newly converted fans praising them as "Angular, jarring, stomping, loud, catchy, crazy, Crazy, CRAZED enough to make Kylie Minogue make out with Lemmy from Motorhead." Meanwhile, Filter Magazine has reported that they are "Grade A electropunk... easily the hottest DIY husband/wife duo to hail from the Midwest since you-know-who burst outta Detroit." That was enough to get them signed to industrial label Invisible Records. Scratch & Sniff is a 7-track album released on October 12, 2004 that includes a Big Black cover of 'Bad Penny'.
