The Pumps

The Pumps formed in April of 2005. Singer Lauria Lovekill (Vicki, Il Jesu), bassist Sara Thunder (Vicki) and keyboardist Lara Hollywood got together for a few informal practices, ultimately laying down the bare-bones structures of two future Pumps songs, "Blood Vessel Pop" and "Choke." The girls soon recruited guitarist Andrea Tennessee (Lily Cedar, Coupleskate) and drummer Chris Snatchie (The Delafields, Milhaus, The Tots) through an ad in the "Chicago Reader" and began playing shows within six months. To date, the band has played over a dozen shows in venues all over Chicago including The Beat Kitchen, Schubas, Subterranean, The Hideout and The Darkroom with Chicago mainstays Evil Beaver, Baby Teeth, The Countdown, M.O.T.O and many others. In March of 2006, The Pumps recorded their first 4-song EP "Pretty. Scary." with Mike Lust at Phantom Manor, Chicago.

Broken hearts, scars, skulls, strangulation, sadistic bosses, hickeys, clique wars, drinking in dive bars, and one-night stands -- The Pumps leave nothing unscathed when it comes to their catchy, off-kilter songwriting. The Pumps music is a combination of riveting half-angelic/half-demonic vocals, rare and unconventional songwriting (which takes the best of keyboard driven pop and dissects it like a dead pig in biology class, only to sew it back up with its limbs in all the wrong places) and explosive live shows (which leave all the confused music snobs bloody and begging for more).
