Adult alternative type of pop-rock combo very much in the vein of Matthew Sweet, Paul Westerberg, or even Reconstruction-era REM has been around only since late '98. Centered around the singing, song-writing and guitar of Tim Hort, the band has a self-released debut CD titled World's Worst Antenna. Hort is joined on the record and in concert by a varying cast of co-conspirators including: Richard Reeves (guitar and vocals), Sean Burke (drums and vocals), Matt Ulm (bass and vocals), Joe Griffin (guitar and vocals), Matt Kern (drums), and Rich Yeater (piano). The record is a solid collection of polished AAA pop-rock gems. "Rollercoaster" a Matthew Sweet type track; "Under the Bridge," which sounds like early REM; "Radio Hour" which features the addition of female vocals by Tamara Pierce; and "Jan of Arc" another early-Beatles/Matthew Sweet sounding tune are stand out tracks. While RH (Formerly Radio Hour 491) doesn't push the edge of the musical envelope-- countless bands have covered their chosen musical style-- Hort does write catchy songs that the band executes quite well. They play around town fairly often, first at last year's Around the Coyote Arts Festival and more recently at Schuba's, Cubby Bear, Fitzgerald's and elsewhere. The record is available at various local shops. For more information, visit their website: http://www.theradiohour.com
