The Saturn Project

The Saturn Project began in 2001. It formed in the inner city of Chicago from Pilsen to Humboldt park with Ancient roots stretching from Mexico to the Carribean. Their history and modern day experiences make their sound trully unique. The bands musical influences stretch beyond the chart from Miles Davis and Radiohead to Robi Draco Rosa and U2. The sound of TSP is one that is evolving from an early experimental stage to a more mature defined sound. This would not happen t until after hundreds of miles of gigs were covered. Countless demos were made and burned. But after all,the road ahead would finally make sense. None of this occurred of course, without there being a season of discovery. The road began 10 years ago. Jesse a self taught musician decided to pick up the guitar and teach himself how to play. No one ever had time to show me the proper rope to guitar playing, so I took it upon myself to learn and perfect it the best I could. Two months later he would perfom for the first time ever. His younger brother Alex would come on board shortly after that and play drums. Jesse a drummer from origin, gave his brother the footnotes of basic drumming and the rest is history. They were on their way to pursue music with an endless dream. Jesse and Alex came from a family of musicians that stretch back generations before them. The passion for music ran in their veins, and it was only a matter of time before the road ahead was paved. After a few acoustic gigs they teamed up with some close friends and decided to form a rock pop band. The band would go on to play hundreds of shows locally and nationally. In 2004 Jesse, his brother Alex and vocalist Reina would go to Argentina and perform in front of 30,000 people for the last time using the original band name. That would mark the end of an era and making way for a new one. All the members in the original band would decide to leave music to pursue other aspirations. Throughout the years Jesse had written material yet to be revealed. In 2001 Jesse had already begun to formulate the songs that would eventually give birth to the Saturn project. And in that summer Jesse Formed the Saturn Project. Jesse felt these songs to be quite different than those he had written years before. Jesse and Alex would lock themselves a way in room for hours driving the songs in and out, trying to find a way. These were more intimate songs, songs from the soul, breaking the natural to a more supernatural approach. We never felt so real, creating these songs. It would be a matter of time before the missing pieces were found. It wasnt till 2004 that Will Pena, a long time friend and guitarist would join the project. The band never really had a consistent pianist, but in late 2005 Jesse decided to take on the challenge of conquering the piano the best he could. He would go on to write some of the bands most impacting anthems and songs, from So alive, Time and U turn, this finally marked the beginning to something worth fighting for. John John Garcia would enter the group in 2005 as the bands official bassist. The search for the crew had come to an end, it would now be time to create the unexpected. Will Pena, the scientist, would spend countless hours experimenting with gadgets and sound effects searching for that sound. Jesse perfecting his lyrics, John John the heart pulse and soul, while Alex transformed himself into a human beat machine the time came to finally go. The band would hit Chicagos main rock venues and in time create a buzz. The Saturn project finally found its voice and the road ahead, one to look forward to. The term "The Saturn Project" defines "discovering the simplicity of life". I a name created to describe the theme revolving this project. A simple message and simple thought, Give us time and So alive Songs and anthems for a hungry generation. VIbrant electric sounds reminiscent to U2, Drum patterns and syncopation mirrored to the fusion of the police, vocals and harmonies colliding Coldplay and radiohead. the Saturn Project is a whole new musical experience in itlself. unconfined energy and abstract sounds. You can't help but notice the richness of culture and ancient blood, subliminaly shown, a portrait is painted night after night on stage with lyrics and sounds striking the soul. Where the "U Turn" leads, only "time" will know, the thought of losing life makes it feel "SO ALive". TSP
