BlueRoy, Barbie Capaccino and Pondo Sinatra definitely have a distinct style about them. A certain je ne sais quoi. A turnstyle if you will. The Turnstyles are an impressive bunch boasting equally impressive resumes. Lead vocalist Suede is founder of Darwin Records as well as a smooth crooner and songwriter. Lead guitarist BlueRoy is a well-known Chicago guitar virtuoso and an in demand session musician. Bassist Barbie Capacino tours with Brian Wilson and has performed with Sheryl Crow, Willie Nelson and Neil young. Pondo Sinatra has drummed with the best of them, from Filter to the Smashing Pumpkins to his current stint with Cupcakes.
The four have pooled their collective talents as The Turnstyles, whose new album, Live in The Studio is a hybrid of sorts. It mixes two recording styles; a live CD and a produced studio album. The band felt they were solid enough to record a tight CD of simultaneous playing and singing, a recording technique which is rarely used today. Later tracks were added to give the album a boost. Suede wanted to "show the core talent of the band and capture the excitement of four lads working together to make their sound." The finished product is a solid recording of studio polish blended with the power of a live performance. Their sound is fresh, catchy and intelligent. Not to be missed.
The Turnstyles are: BlueRoy (Arch Alcantara: lead guitar and vocals); Barbie Capaccino (Scott Bennett: bass and vocals); Pondo Sinatra (Matt Walker: drums)
