(1936 - 2006) Meat & Potatoes blues guitarist who played the Chicago mainstage blues clubs, especially Blue Chicago and Blue Chicago on Clark, with his very tight band Willie Kent & the Gents. He's finally getting his respect nationally, evident in his 1996 Handy nomination -- Blues Instrumentalist - Bass. Kent was a longtime sideman (Little Walter, Muddy Waters and Junior Wells, to name a few) who was unjustly sent to county prison work camp at the age of 13 and never knew his father. Says Kent, "I used to want a father so bad. If I could have ordered one out of a book, I would have." Among his recordings are the recent "Blues and Trouble" (2004), "Comin' Alive!" (2001) and "Make Room for the Blues" (1998). You can also hear him on Lil Ed Williams Who's Been Talking (Earwig Records).
Sadly, Willie Kent lost his battle to cancer on March 2, 2006 For more information, visit their website: http://www.williekentblues.com
