| Though only recently rounded out, the idea of Window Nine began back in 2002 when Tom Curless and Corbin Elliott were introduced through a mutual friend. Struck by their musical chemistry, the two launched into a fit of prolific songwriting and began hunting for the right line-up to complete a band. Months of searching didn't lead them to who they were looking for, but they plowed ahead and did a very unusual thing: laid down a set of complete instrumentals without vocals or lyrics, trusting that the right singer would come along to finish the tracks. They took the project to Andy Gerber at Million Yen Studios (engineer for Local H, The Cells, Cheap Trick and Suffrajett, just to name a few). Shortly after, they resumed scouting and happened upon David Blatt, a Windy City newcomer, through the Chicago Reader. Deciding it was a great fit, they asked David to return to Million Yen with them to give the record a voice. A final round of searching brought them together with Chicago music vet Mike Stirk, now the bassist backbone of the band.
Only five months out of the gate, Window Nine has hit the ground running, headlining weekend shows at The Elbo Room and teaming up with Chicago favorites Giant Step and Suffrajett at the Double Door. Their debut CD, Rise, was given top praise by XRT’s Richard Milne and the band currently holds the #2 spot in the top ten at GoJangle.com, the new Music Underground.
Window Nine’s unique blend of aggressive emo-rock, power-pop, and lushly provocative lyrics will undoubtedly continue to grab generous attention both locally and beyond. For more information, visit their website: http://www.windownine.com
