| Somewhere between funk, soul, rap, and jazz lies Word Bongo, one of the areas' ultimate lounge bands. R&B, blues and jazz-inflected, they have a smooth groovy sound, complimented by deep, gravelly, beat-poet-like vocals. Not a high-energy party band, Word Bongo has a classic night-club sound that goes very well with martinis, bourbon, or scotch on the rocks and perhaps a lot of cigarettes. Pretty good instrumental backing, too.
