The IIT campus is significant, if not utterly spectacular. Like many colleges, it features a mix of pragmatic and creative architecture and offers an abundance of events of all kinds (from athletics to lectures to cultural festivals). The landscape, designed by Alfred Caldwell in close association with Mies van der Rohe, has suffered the ravages of time and the urban environment. Yet many of the original plantings have survived, and there’s an effort underway to restore the campus landscape. Some campus events are open to the public; a schedule can be found online at
Webservices.iit.edu/calendar.
