(MOKENA, IL) – It had been six years since Chicago blues veterans HOWARD AND THE WHITE BOYS (a/k/a “Chicago’s Hardest-Working Blues Band”) last put out a CD, but their Evidence Records album, MADE IN CHICAGO, more than makes up for lost time. Howard and the White Boys perform locally at Morgan’s, 18700 Ol Lagrange Rd., Mokena, Friday, February 19. 9 p.m. $5. Info: (708) 478-3610 or log onto www.morgansthunderbowl.com. The group recently performed live on Superstation WGN in Chicago and were nominated in six categories - “Best Blues Group or Artist;” “Male Vocalist of the Year” (Howard McCullum); “Guitarist of the Year” (Rocco Calipari, Pete Galanis); “Bassist of the Year” (Howard McCullum); and “Drummer of the Year” (Jim “Bucka” Christopulos) for the 5th Annual South Bay (Los Angeles) Music Awards this past April. Vocalist Howard McCullum won“2009 Male Vocalist of the Year” honors at the event. Their impressively large fan base on both sides of the Atlantic won’t be disappointed -- not by a long shot!! MADE IN CHICAGO represents the zenith of the group’s recorded output, and it’s certainly the disc that Howard & the White Boys are most proud of. While the band hasn’t recorded in six years, they’ve been gigging continuously throughout the U.S. and Europe; this, in turn, has lent their trademark brand of contemporary blues an indomitable tightness brimming with raw power. All of this comes through on the new disc, proving that the wait was well worth it.

Good stuff, saw these guys more than a few times. They have a distinct sound in a city where music tends to be follow the leader circle jerk nonsense. Definitely worth checking out.

I've caught the band a few times now. It seems like they're always around playing tons of different venues. The band definitely is working hard to try and make it big. They're songs are some of the most original I've heard in the Chicago music scene. They have great energy on stage and they always end up doing something funny either on purpose or by accident. I'd definitely recommend the band to anyone who likes good original local rock.

I have seen Verona Red several times and each time have been left sockless, because they have been rocked off. I would suggest this band to anyone who enjoys either rock n roll, catchy tunes and the good times.

Crash test dummies? Are you drunk? The singer is dragging the rest down. Mediocre band at best. But I have to agree with the guy who said "at least they're trying."
